Emily Winter, PhD, NCSP

Licensed Psychologist

she/her/hers

Dr. Emily Winter (she/her/hers) is a licensed psychologist who specializes in testing psychology, with an emphasis on strengths-based, neuro-affirming, and culturally responsive assessment practices with children, adolescents, and young adults. Working side by side with clients, and their support systems – caregivers, school teams, health services providers, partners, and family members – Emily seeks to understand you holistically, integrating assessment data with information seen in real life, to understand your, or your child’s, story. Whether an evaluation results in a diagnosis or not, the true value Dr. Winter sees in her work with you comes with the recommendations – the blueprint moving forward to help you, or your family, determine the best path forward.

Compassion. Care. Evidence-informed. Thoroughness.

When meeting with you, Emily first seeks to understand what brought you to Sasco River Center, and how we can help. At the end of this evaluation process, what questions do you want answered? What would a successful evaluation experience look like? Understanding your concerns, and addressing those questions up front is of utmost importance in the process. Walking through psychoeducational assessment in a shoulder-to-shoulder manner, in partnership, is another critical element – compassionate care that is, at the same time,
thorough, research-consulted, and multi-faceted.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Winter is a passionate scholar-practitioner, actively involved in regular peer-reviewed research publication with frequent presentations accepted at national conferences. Her role as an academic (she is a full-time assistant professor of clinical psychology), shows up clearly in her work with families; specifically in how she integrates the most up-to-date research and scholarship to provide knowledge on the evidence-base of interventions and assessment practices, balanced with compassionate care that seeks to know who someone is through the assessment process. She teaches courses on child and adolescent evidence-based treatment, psychopathology and diagnosis, as well as cognitive and integrative assessment.

Regarding her training, she is a Licensed Psychologist in both Connecticut and New York as well as a Connecticut and Nationally Certified School Psychologist. She completed her specialist level training in School Psychology at the Graduate School of Education and Human Development at Fairfield University and her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, specialization School Psychology at the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut.
