Dr. Sharon M McCloskey, EdD, MBA, OTR/L, DipCOT, CTP, is a pediatric and mental health occupational therapist. Sharon graduated from the University of Dublin, Trinity College, in 1985 and worked for five years in Ireland before emigrating to the United States. She has had a long and rewarding career as an OT across both pediatric and mental health settings, including public and private schools, clinics, and hospitals, delivering excellence in occupational therapy practice. Her passion has always been pediatrics, play, and mental health. Sharon embraces working with the ‘whole’ child, incorporating her expertise in sensory based interventions with all kinds of children, from preschool age through adolescence. She very much enjoys working collaboratively with families to ensure the very best outcomes for children.
Sharon has always had a passion for education and contributing to the development of new occupational therapy practitioners. She is a Program Director and Clinical Professor at Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, CT. Her teaching interests include the delivery of pediatric and mental health lab classes, as well as leadership and management courses, and foundational courses in OT practice. Her research interests include interprofessional education, service- learning, and trauma-informed care. Sharon is particularly interested in understanding the impact of mental health on a child’s daily life activities and occupations, the application of sensory based interventions, and seeks to apply positive neuroscience into clinical pediatric practice.
