Nicole Eskandar, MSEd

Nicole specializes in working with children and young adults with Anxiety, Depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (e.g. skin picking, hair pulling, check biting), Autism Spectrum Disorder and Executive Functioning challenges. Nicole earned her B.S. from Cornell University and her Masters in School Psychology from Long Island University. She is a certified provider of PEERS Social Skills Training.

Before transitioning to private practice, Nicole counseled at Greenwich High School and SUNY college. She fuses a physiological foundation with cognitive therapy, social skills development and executive functioning tools for her clients. As a school psychologist, Nicole is equipped to interpret and apply findings from her clients psycho-educational evaluations. She aims to create a safe space to work collaboratively with her clients to find effective responses to their challenges.

Nicole employs the following research based modalities of treatment:

  • Physiological Therapy/Polyvagal Theory (fostering the body/brain connection through an understanding of our defense mechanisms evolutionary hierarchy)
  • Somatic Experiencing (physiological discharge of trauma stored in the body)
  • ERP, Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD (deliberate exposure to thoughts/situations that evoke anxiety while choosing not to engage in safety habits)
  • ComB, Comprehensive Behavioral Treatment for Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (self-awareness training coupled with individualized interventions to replace problematic habits with healthy alternatives)
  • Collaborative Problem-Solving (converting challenging behaviors to unsolved problems)
  • PEERS Social Skills Training (evidenced based social skills program)
  • CBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (catching, challenging and changing unhealthy thoughts)
  • DBT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance and emotional regulation)
  • Motivational Interviewing (trusting the wisdom of a person to know what is best for them)

As a practitioner and mother to three teenagers in Greenwich, Nicole sees it as her privilege to foster the growth of children and young adults in our community.
